Campaign contributions are important to track to see what the interest that congressmen are obligated to represent after receiving funds and getting elected. This is the beneficial relationship between special interest groups and congressional committees in the iron triangle that we learned about last unit. It is also important to see how they are voting on issues that interest you to determine if you agree or disagree with how they voted. This may influence whether you would vote for them if they would run for reelection.

Record the following information in a Google Doc and share it with me @ sarah.montano@bsd7.org by Monday, April 9th.

1)    Look up our MT Senators, Steve Daines (Incumbent) (R) and Jon Tester (Incumbent)

a)      When you get to their pages, look into the “Funding” folder.

         I) Who are the top 6 "Top Contributors," "Top Industries," and "Top Sectors" for each senator?

b)    Now, go to the “Bio” folder for each person.

                i)      List two Congressional Committees that they serve on.

c)     Go to the “Votes” folder for each person.

i)      Find an issue in the scroll bar that interests you (if there aren’t any key votes for that person on that topic, choose a different one).

ii)    Choose a bill in that topic and summarize the bill (what does it do and/or change?).
